Todd Jacobs

Todd has a great love for both performing on and teaching the trombone. He received his Master of Music degree with an emphasis in Trombone Performance in 2010 from Brigham Young University where he studied under Dr. Will Kimball. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Performance (summa cum laude) in 2007 from Arizona State University where he studied with Professor Gail Wilson, former principal trombone of the Phoenix Symphony. Todd worked at BYU as Adjunct Professor of Trombone, teaching general-studies lessons and organizing and coaching a variety of brass chamber ensembles.

Todd was a member of the Orchestra at Temple Squarefor four years. He performed regularly on international television and radio broadcasts of Music and the Spoken Word with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and played principal trombone with the organization on its Midwestern U.S. and Northeastern U.S. tours. As a member of BYU’s top performing ensembles, Todd toured the Eastern U.S.,Korea, and Japan.

Todd has participated in several recordings, including Emma Smith: The Movie and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Todd has experience performing in many styles of music, from symphony orchestras to pit orchestras, concert bands, jazz ensembles, chamber ensembles, and solo performances. Todd was a participant in the 2007 European American Musical Alliance’s summer chamber ensemble program in Paris, France, where he performed works on two nights of recitals.

Prior to beginning his Master’s program at BYU, Todd performed as principal trombone in the Mesa Symphony Orchestra (now the Symphony of the Southwest) of Mesa, Arizona. He also performed in several musical stage productions including Carousel, and Dialogues of the Carmelites.

Todd’s instructors include Dr. Will Kimball, Gail Wilson, Jeff Craig, Bill Clark and Larry Morse. He currently resides in Centennial, Colorado with his wife, Jessica, and their daughters, Evangeline and Elizabeth.
